HuR (also called Elavl-1 or HuA) is a protein that binds to specific AU-rich elements in a mRNA and thereby upregulates its expression. The protein contains three RRM type RNA binding domains. The first and second RNA binding domains interact with the Au-rich element. Although it is essential for activity, the function of the third RNA binding domain remains unknown. HuR and is a member of a family of proteins called the elav-like proteins. The other members, HuD, HuC, and HEL-N1 are predominantly expressed in neurons. Mab CG001 (monoclonal 19F12) was generated against a unique HuR peptide and does not react with HuD, HuC, or Hel-N1. It is ideal for western blot and immunohistochemistry applications and has been featured in many scientific publications. The picture below shows an ovarian tumor stained with 19F12.
